Magazine Pre-Production/ Nylon/Fader/FDB
Magazine covers analysis
1. Nylon
1. Nylon
- The front cover of ‘Nylon’ is suggesting that the people that are reading it are able to take in a lot of information due to the scatter gun approach of how the words are positioned which could suggest that audience they are aiming for (target audience) are very capable of reading words that are not in a formal structure.
- The title of ‘Nylon’ isn’t fully shown as Alexa Chung’s head is covering the Midpoint of the word, this could suggest that the magazine isn’t important but rather the main focus of attention should be on Alexa Chung.
- The producer of Nylon is targeting an audience of young females as they are using phrases such as ‘the coolest girls in the world’ and ‘iconic beauty’ which would suggest that females will look at this magazine and see that Alexa Chung is fairly attractive and will want to know all about the ‘iconic beauty’.
- Since this is a music magazine aimed at teenage to early adult females, Nylon have put a list of people that appear in the magazine such as Iggy Azelea and Lorde, who are enjoying some very good success in the charts so this could help Nylon and the producer sell more copies as they have that star name attraction alongside Alexa Chung.
- The colours that are used for this front cover are a white background with the colour of the font being a baby blue, black or pinky purple colour, this could show the audience by using these colours on a white background that their magazine stands out from the rest of this type of genre of magazine as they are using soft colours which compliment the point of interest which is Alexa Chung.
- The body language of Alexa Chung is quite open, with the bottom half of her body appearing to be more free than the top half of her body which is more of a tightly held position which could be suggesting that she has lots to share in the covers of the magazine.
Fader
- Fader uses the colours orange for the background which could suggest happiness, creativity and enthusiasm. This would make sense as the magazine wants the audience to see the orange colours and want to pick up the magazine and read it. This is also helped by the light colours of the jumper that Tyler, the creator is wearing. The colour is very gentle and could be seen as a calming colour.
- The front cover has very little writing on it and the main point of interest is Tyler, the creators face which could mean that he is the main focus of this magazine and nothing inside is as exciting as him,
- The title is located in the top left hand corner of the magazine and is written in a white bold font.
- The mise-en-scene of Tyler, the creator is that his face is being covered by the top of his jumper which suggests he is concealing something from the audience.
FDB
- The front cover of this magazine subverts the codes and conventions of mainstream magazine covers as it is very informal.
- The image that is the point of interest is a mid shot of the main person, it’s a low angle which could show the power the person has in the situation.
- The colour of the costume that he is wearing are very contradicting as he has a bright yellow jacket on and a dark blue jogging bottoms on which could suggest that there is darkness within the light.
