Representation in Les Revenants

Representation- the way a certain group of people are presented i a media product over and over again.
Based off the producers ideological approach, so people will take the views of the producers.
Producers are bias for some representations.

1.     The group, place or issue on which a media product is focusing.

2.     The media language the media product uses in order to present these groups or issues.

3.     The ideological perspective about the group or issue being created within the product.

4.     The impact of this ideological perspective on the target audience.

Representations are not real and they are a construction of reality.

Julie Meyers
She represents middle aged possibly slightly attractive, she is quite smart as she is wearing a collar with a sweater so this could suggest that she doesn't dress up for anyone. Facial expressions are quite blank, she is not really bothered about her appearance

 Madame Costa would appeal to a more older audience as she is a representation of older people as she looks quite old, has sunken eyes

 Camille is very pale and isn't wearing make up, looks very innocent and would appeal more to a teenage audience. The actress was probably cast due her looking very young. Quite smartly dressed, an atypical representation of a teenage girl, cardigan suggests older, Binary oppositions, Camille is a complex representation which reflects the complicated narrative,

 Claire Séguret represents French mums as she has no make up on and looks very pale, wearing a jumper which could suggest that she is quite plain and doesn't have, stereotypical, aspirational middle class mother, appeals to the heterosexual male audience around her age, 

The actor of Simon has probably been picked due to his looks and his levels of attractiveness as teenage audiences in France would probably find this attractive as he is clean shaven, got thick black hair which people. Simon represents young adult males in France as rebellious as he is wearing a leatherjacket. Strong facial features. Looks very french, targeting a stereotypical french audience.

• The cast of Les Revenants are representations of rural village life. 
• If this was aimed at British audience we would probably have it set in Paris.
• The setting for this show is atypical as it is set in a village near the Alps.
• They all live in the same village.
• They all represent white people.
• This is targeted at white, middle class audience.  

Themes and Allegorical perspectives of Les Revenants

• It is about death and how people deal with death.
• Denial to begin with, 
• People that experience death are alive.
• Abjection- to have something cut off or separated. 
• The show taking away that aspect.
